Baby Dilophasaurus .......in progress
Here are some pictures of a current project that I am working on. It is a scale model of a baby Dilophasaurus hatchling. This is a static prop display, the type of thing that you might see in a museum. Currently I am finishing the sculpt and will post the final project upon completion.
The sculpt itself started out as a concept drawing of a baby dinosaur emerging from it's egg, concealed in foliage. I decided to take an authentic approach to the egg itself, so I sourced and found an ostrich farm in Milton, Ontario that had an egg available.
The sculpt itself started out initially with a tin foil and underwire armiture to create the basic shape of the head and body. I layered Firm Grey Super Sculpey over the wire to bulk out the shape. I then baked it for 15 minutes at 275 degrees in the oven at home. This was done several times in order to make sure that it would be structurally sound. I then layered the entire the entire body in Origional Sculpey. I added the eyes and scale detail at this point. Then more baking again at 275 for 15 minutes.
The feet have been constructed seperately so that they would be easier to work on and add detail to. They will be added to the body at the end of the process just before paint and the whole sculpt will be re-baked one final time.
I am looking forward to posting paint pictures and of course the completed project :) I am pleased with the progress so far and am excited to share this with you!
See the Gallery for completed Project.......He's a cutie!
